Getting Started with 3D Printing
I Am Brand New to 3D Printing
We are excited that you've discovered this awesome hobby and are exploring how Polymaker can assist with your 3D printing needs! 3D printing can sometimes feel overwhelming, but we are here to help you get started on the right foot.
We highly recommend starting with our PolyLite™ PLA or PolyTerra™ PLA. These materials are specifically engineered to be incredibly easy to print, reliable, and forgiving for beginners. They require no special hardware or enclosure and work beautifully on almost any desktop 3D printer.
I Am Looking for Easy Single Color Printing
For everyday, straightforward single-color printing, PolyLite™ PLA and PolyTerra™ PLA remain the gold standards. PolyLite™ gives you a crisp, slight semi-gloss finish with high rigid strength, while PolyTerra™ offers an amazing smooth, ultra-matte finish that naturally hides layer lines for a seamless look.
I Am Looking for Durable and Strong 3D Prints
If your parts need to withstand functional stress, drops, or mechanical wear, look into our PolyMax™ lineup (PolyMax™ PLA or PolyMax™ PETG). Engineered with Polymaker's Nano-reinforcement technology, PolyMax™ materials exhibit extremely high impact toughness and durability, matching or exceeding the toughness of regular ABS while remaining very easy to print.
What Materials Work on My Printer?
Most standard open-frame desktop 3D printers can print PLA, Wood-filled PLA, PETG, and TPU without any modifications. Materials like ABS, ASA, and Polycarbonate require a heated bed and an enclosed chamber to prevent warping. Check your printer manufacturer's maximum nozzle and bed temperature limits before trying engineering-grade filaments.

About Polymaker Materials
Overview of Material Options
Polymaker offers a comprehensive portfolio divided into families: PolyLite™ for reliable everyday printing, PolyTerra™ for eco-friendly matte finishes, PolyMax™ for maximum impact toughness, and specialized engineering families like PolyMide™ (Nylon) and PolyMax™ ASA/ABS for extreme environments.
What are the Differences Between Each Material Type?
PLA is rigid and easy to print; PETG offers higher chemical/heat resistance and slight flexibility; TPU is fully rubber-like and flexible; ABS/ASA offer excellent weatherability and outdoor performance but require controlled environmental chambers to print reliably.
What is Panchroma™?
Panchroma™ is Polymaker's dedicated color-tech family focused on bringing unique optical experiences, color-changing effects, dual-tone aesthetics, and vibrant, highly saturated gradients to the 3D printing world without sacrificing mechanical reliability.
What is Fiberon™?
Fiberon™ represents our fiber-reinforced composite filament line. By infusing premium engineering plastics with carbon fiber or glass fiber matrices, Fiberon™ materials deliver exceptional structural rigidity, dimensional stability, and high thermal resistance for industrial tooling and aerospace/automotive prototyping.
Ultra Performance vs High Performance vs General Engineering Fiberon™ Materials
General Engineering focuses on affordability and stiff prototyping (e.g., PETG-CF). High Performance elevates thermal thresholds and tensile properties (e.g., Nylon-CF). Ultra Performance tackles industrial-tier replacement of structural metals with high chemical, thermal, and mechanical continuous-load capabilities.

General Print Tips
Always ensure your first layer is properly leveled and calibrated. Keep your print surface completely clean of dust or finger oils using isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Adjust your cooling fans according to material needs: high cooling for PLA, moderate cooling for PETG, and zero/minimal cooling for ABS/ASA.
How to Load Filament into Your Printer
Preheat your hotend to the appropriate temperature for the material currently in the printer. Cut the tip of your new filament at a 45-degree angle to make routing easier, engagement smooth, and feed directly into the extruder drive gears until clean material purges through the nozzle.
More Information on Printing with Bambu Lab Printers
Polymaker spools are highly compatible with high-speed setups. For cardboard spools used inside the Bambu Lab AMS system, we recommend printing a reusable plastic adapter ring or utilizing an empty plastic spool to ensure frictionless rotation and seamless feeding during multi-color operations.
Do You Have a Printer Profile for My Printer?
Yes! We actively maintain downloadable slicing profiles for Cura, PrusaSlicer, and OrcaSlicer across major machine vendors. Please visit our website's Download Center to access verified configurations tailored to your specific hardware setup.
